Over 2,000 students from 32 schools throughout the Tri-State area will attend the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra’s “Helen M. McKinney Young People’s Concerts” on March 16th, 17th, and 18th at the Victory Theatre in downtown Evansville. Under the baton of Maestro Roger Kalia, the orchestra will present two performances on March 16th, 17th, and 18th at 9:00 and 10:45 a.m. In addition, artwork by the 2022 “Symphony of Color” Art Contest winners will be showcased during the program.
This year’s theme is “Maestro at the Movies” and celebrates the 90th birthday of legendary film composer John Williams. The concert will feature music from many popular movies spanning the last four decades, including Star Wars, E.T., Harry Potter, and more! In addition to hearing the fantastic music of John Williams, students will learn about the process of composing music for film.
The Young People’s Concerts are educational performances designed to introduce third, fourth, and fifth grade students to the world of orchestral music. The concerts also aid teachers in achieving curriculum goals set forth in the National Standards for Art Education by allowing students to examine the nature, meaning, and value of music.
The program will be recorded and can be distributed to any class that is unable to attend one of the live performances.
