EVANSVILLE, IN REGION —Purdue University and BWX Technologies Inc. (BWXT), a leading manufacturer of nuclear components with operations in Mount Vernon, are teaming up to advance next-generation nuclear energy technologies.
The two organizations recently signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on research and development in areas including small modular reactors (SMRs), microreactors, and advanced manufacturing. The partnership aims to strengthen the nation’s energy resilience, bolster economic growth, and expand Indiana’s role in the clean energy economy.
Through this agreement, Purdue and BWXT will work together to expand educational and workforce development opportunities, sharing expertise and resources to prepare the next generation of nuclear engineers and innovators.
BWXT’s Mount Vernon facility—employing more than 500 people—will play a key role in supporting this growing industry. The collaboration represents a significant step toward positioning Southwest Indiana as a leader in nuclear innovation and advanced energy manufacturing.
