2026 E-REP Day at the Statehouse

January 22, 2026: Our regional delegation engaged in a full day of conversations with Governor Mike Braun, his cabinet, and legislative leaders on issues important to Southwest Indiana. This annual visit helps E-REP stay informed on state priorities and share regional perspectives that support long-term economic and workforce goals for Southwest Indiana.

Among the hustle and bustle of a fast-paced session, lawmakers and officials were still able to take time on Wednesday to meet with members of the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership for their 2026 E-REP Statehouse Day. Thanks to the Indiana Chapter of AARP, who sponsored the event and graciously hosted E-REP for most of the day.

Attendees got a quick start to the day hearing from Secretary of Commerce David Adams and President of the IN Economic Development Corporation Josh Richardson centered around the need for feedback from regions like Evansville on what the IEDC can do to support them, and the need for development programs beyond READI 2.0. Discussions then turned to data centers as a means to support regional growth and utility concerns with Suzie Jaworowski, Secretary of Energy and Natural Resources, who explained the need for a diversified power portfolio to meet growing demands.

After a morning of thoughtful discourse, attendees made their way into the Statehouse to speak with Governor Braun, about a variety of topics, including the I-69 bridge, childcare services, and education/workforce needs.

Several lawmakers from the Evansville region joined the group over lunch to discuss their ongoing legislation and hear feedback from attendees before Matt Ubelhor, Secretary of Transportation & Infrastructure, spoke with the group regarding the complexities of INDOT, and infrastructure goals for the Southwest part of Indiana.

Finally, the group made its way back to the Statehouse for the opportunity to speak with Senate Pro Tem Rodric Bray and House Speaker Todd Huston, who spoke on priority legislation within their chambers, especially regarding housing affordability and the continued concerns for lowering medicaid funds to address other demons in the state. Overall, E-REP Day at the Statehouse proved to be an excellent turnout with high quality conversations between state officials, lawmakers, and the diverse group of leading members that comprise the Evansville region.
