Our Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E) team recently visited American River Transportation Company (ARTCO) at the Port of Indiana-Mount Vernon alongside partners from the Southwest Indiana Workforce Board and CenterPoint Energy.
ARTCO is ADM’s marine transportation division and plays a critical role in moving commodities throughout the inland waterway system. During the visit, the team learned more about river fleet operations, harbor services, workforce development, and future investment plans while touring the harbor by boat.
The visit also provided an opportunity to hear directly from employees—including fleet operations, safety, and vessel personnel—about their career paths in the maritime industry. ARTCO highlighted its strong culture of internal promotion and workforce development, with employees able to advance from entry-level positions into leadership and captain roles.
As one of the largest inland barge transportation companies in the country, ARTCO helps support the movement of goods throughout the Ohio River system and serves as an important part of the logistics network that supports the Port of Indiana-Mount Vernon and the broader regional economy.
