National BMX event to bring an estimated 500 riders to Evansville during Labor Day weekend as Burdette Park BMX celebrates 50 years
Evansville will welcome some of the nation’s top BMX riders in 2027 as Burdette Park BMX has been selected to host the USA BMX Hoosier Nationals during Labor Day weekend, bringing an estimated 500 riders and their families to the community.
Established as the American Bicycle Association in 1977 and headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA BMX is the nation’s largest cycling organization, with more than 70,000 members and more than 300 sanctioned BMX tracks across the United States and Canada. USA BMX provides opportunities for riders of all ages and skill levels through racing, freestyle, national events, facility development and youth programs.
The event will be hosted through a collaborative effort between Explore Evansville, the Evansville Regional Sports Commission, Burdette Park and Burdette BMX.
The 2027 Hoosier Nationals holds special significance for Burdette Park BMX as the track celebrates its 50th anniversary. Established in 1977, Burdette Park BMX is one of the oldest BMX tracks in the country and has evolved significantly throughout its history.
Originally built as a flat track, Burdette Park BMX has transformed into one of the most unique and recognizable tracks in the sport. The nearly 1,500-foot course features five straights, its famous “S” turn, and a signature downhill layout that has earned the track a reputation as one of the fastest downhill BMX tracks in the country.
Burdette Park BMX previously hosted USA BMX competition in 2019 when it welcomed the North Central Gold Cup Finals. The 2027 Hoosier Nationals will mark the first USA BMX National event hosted at Burdette Park BMX. USA BMX described Burdette in 2019 as one of the sport’s last remaining downhill courses.
“Being chosen to host the 2027 Hoosier Nationals is a tremendous honor and a great opportunity for our track to showcase what 50 years of BMX racing has meant to our riders, parents, volunteers and community,” said Andy Damin, president of Burdette Park BMX. “It’s a great chance for riders from across the country to experience our one-of-a-kind downhill track.”
The national event is expected to bring hundreds of riders, families and spectators to Evansville, providing an opportunity to showcase the community while generating visitor spending throughout the region.

For the Evansville Regional Sports Commission, the event represents another opportunity to bring high-profile competition to a community that has established itself as a destination for championship events.

USA BMX is the nation’s largest cycling organization, with more than 70,000 members and more than 300 sanctioned BMX tracks across the United States and Canada. The organization’s national series regularly brings hundreds of riders and spectators to communities across the country, with recent seasons featuring nearly 30 national racing events.
The 2027 Hoosier Nationals will give riders from across the country an opportunity to compete on one of BMX’s most distinctive tracks while celebrating five decades of racing at Burdette Park.
